What is Forensic Assessment?
It’s helpful to understand forensic psychology as a scope of practice before defining it in terms of testing. The American Psychological Association defines Forensic Psychology as the application of clinical psychology to the legal arena. This definition can be applied to any sort of psychological service where the person is involved with the law, from therapy with a recent parolee, to a lawyer who is seeking an assessment for their client. Forensic testing usually aids the legal proceedings in a specific case.
