Dr. Gabriel Severino, MA, PSYD
Hi, I’m Dr. Severino! I’m excited you’re here because I know how difficult the first (or third) step can be and I’d love to help you on whatever leg of the journey you are on.
I believe in working together with clients from a holistic standpoint in the pursuit of sustainable solutions. People are unique; so, I think treatment should be as distinctive as they are. To achieve this goal, I draw from Humanistically oriented psychotherapies such as Relational Constructivism, Narrative therapy, Feminist therapy, and Existential therapy. This means that I see each person I work with as the expert of their life and myself as their unconditionally supportive counsel.
My interest in psychology began when I started becoming aware of social dynamics and was unsure how to navigate them. As I continued to learn about the subtleties that shape human experiences my curiosities became a passion. Thus, I double majored in psychology and philosophy at Rutgers University with a minor in sociology and graduated in 2014 with more questions about human nature than I had answers to.
Following the advice of an early mentor who told me “an answer is only as good as the question it leads to,” I decided to become a clinical psychologist and enrolled at Adler University. At Adler University, I obtained a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology in 2020 and will graduate with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2024 with an emphasis in traumatic stress.
Throughout my training I have worked in substance abuse facilities, community mental health settings, college counseling settings and private practices with people from all different walks of life; as young as 3 and as old as 82. These experiences provided me the opportunity to begin specializing in therapy with adolescents, adults, and couples to overcome transition periods and the challenges brought on by communication issues, grief, general stress, anxiety, depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and post-traumatic stress (PTSD).
Outside of the office, I spend my time exploring the world through experiences. I enjoy reading, traveling, cooking, grilling, eating new things (and old favorites), getting lost in national parks, playing video games and board games, and listening to music louder than I probably should.
You know what you want your life to look like and it would be my honor to bear witness to your success.
